Jerry O'Dywer

Experience

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do” -Steve Jobs

Jerry hails from a small village named Annacarthy in Tipperary, Ireland.   Jerry grew up around horses, riding at a young age and competing in many show jumping and cross country events around the south of Ireland.

He rode his first race horse at the age of 14 on a summer holiday for Tommy Stack in Thomastown Co. Tipperary and immediately knew it was for him. In 1998 he set his sights on attending the racing school in Ireland. His dedication and ambition while attending the army equitation school did not go unnoticed as he received the outstanding trainee award out of the 30 students who were in his class.

David Hanley (then manager of what in Ireland, currently general manager of Winstar) was the first trainer with which Jerry worked. David who gave him a first class schooling in horsemanship and also gave him his first winner as a jockey. When David left for the USA, Jerry spent the next 3 years working, learning and riding for Michael Halford on the Curragh. From 2006-2010 Jerry was based in Newmarket England where he further honed his horse expertise and riding.  Along the way Jerry gained valuable experience while riding in many countries throughout Europe, as well as Dubai.

In 2010 Jerry went to the USA for a working holiday and fell in love with American racing while working for Al Stall at Keeneland.  Since moving to the USA Jerry has worked with some of the best trainers and horses in the business, Al Stall (Blame), Andrew Mckeever (Daisy Devine), Charlie Lopresti (Wise Dan), Michael Matz (Assateague), William Mott (Flat Out, Ron the Greek). This experience has filled Jerry with invaluable knowledge and unbeatable drive.
