TWO YEAR OLD PINHOOK PROPOSAL

Firstly: In terms of thoroughbred auctions, pinhooking describes the practice of buying yearling horses at auction or privately, overseeing their breaking and training, and eventually re-selling them as race-ready two-year-olds in training. The same practice can be done with weanlings to resell as yearlings.

The two year pinhook has proven to be a very profitable way of getting a return on investment in a relatively short span of time.  Plain and simple, the goal of our pinhooking partnership is to buy yearlings, break and train them for 5-8 months then sell them in select ‘two-year-old-in-training’ sales the following  year, usually during April, May and June.

There are reasons that pinhooking has gained a great deal of popularity, mainly:

For Sellers:  The increase in the number of two year old thoroughbred auctions where they are sold to racing stables across the country.  Historically, there’s less pedigree power at a two year old sale than there is a premier yearling sales, such as Fasig-Timpton, and thus means a horse with more athleticism and talent than pedigree has the ability to earn the seller a healthy return on investment.

For Buyers:  buying a two year old in training eliminates some of the uncertainty of how good a potential racehorse looks, trains, and acts.  And barring any setbacks, these two year olds will go to the racetrack under my training to prepare to race, providing some buyers the ability for an almost instant potential return on their investment.  At the racetrack prospective buyers

The sweet-spot for buying good prospect yearlings hovers around the middle market price range ($30k - $80k).  Our objective will be to sell for at least double purchase price at one of the many two year old in training sales or privately if one of the horses happens to miss a sale due to unforeseen circumstances.  Of course, these are living breathing animals, and between the when they are purchased as yearlings, and sold as two year olds there is the potential for injuries, illness or other physical problems.  Having two or three yearlings gives us more than one roll of the dice.

This partnership will benefit from my extensive knowledge and experience training and racing thoroughbreds.  In addition, I have spent time with, and learned a great deal about the two year old business, from Niall Brennan in Ocala Florida. He always has a big consignment at the two year old sales and continues to do well year after year.  In this partnership I will personally be involved in the process of breaking them and riding them before sending them to Florida in mid-December to continue their preparation for the 2yr old in training sales – where I will also be personally involved training them and grooming them for success.

Once purchased, investors will be informed of what horses they are involved in and will be kept up to date on progress and future plans and location of each horse.  Investors are welcome to come see the horses at any time.  All horses purchased will be insured to protect investment.

My partnership plans on investing $100,000 in two or three yearlings, and allowing four shareholders that will each invest $25,000 for a 25% stake in the partnership.   By being involved in multiple horses of equal shares, it expands the investors’ opportunity of gaining maximum profit on his/her investment.  All expenses after purchase will be per horse and can vary from month to month depending on the needs and care of each horse, but every investor will only have 25% of bill to pay as that is the percentage he/she is responsible for.  The exact expense schedule is available should you be interested.

Here are just a few horses bought as yearlings and resold six to eight months later at a 2yr old in training sale for a nice profit:

  • Play Ballado was bought for $75,000 and resold for $525,000.

  • Bradester was bought for $20,000 and resold for $195,000

  • Cinco Charlie was bought for $75,000 and resold for $190,000.

  • Joyful Victory was bought for $60,000 and resold for $400,00

I hope you will consider joining us in this sensational opportunity.  If you are interested or have any other questions please get in touch.
